Ian Kushnir was born in Farmington Hills, Mich. and grew up in the Dearborn area. A graduate of Fordson High School and Henry Ford Community College, he has developed a substantial career as a freelance photographer for both Heritage Newspapers and Patch.com. His photography has captured U.S. presidential visits to Detroit, sporting events, festivals, and community events. He is also a respected fire photographer in the Detroit area.He had the great honor to ride and document Pontiac Fire before they became part of Waterford.

Dearborn- Fordson cleaners 2nd fire 9-11-12 : http://dearborn.patch.com/articles/fordson-cleaners-damaged-in-dearborn-business-second-fire-this-year Just two weeks after Fordson Cleaners reopened following a serious fire in March, the east Dearborn business was ablaze again Tuesday night. The Dearborn Fire Department was called to the scene at 9:47 p.m., with reports of smoke billowing out of the front doors. The business was closed at the time; no one was inside. Battalion Chief Richard Cunningham said that trucks from stations 1, 3 and 4 responded to the fire, which was out by 10:15 p.m. Dearborn police closed down Michigan Avenue just east of Schaefer Road for about an hour. The westbound side of the road was reopened just before 11 p.m. Cunningham explained that the fire was contained within the building, and that clothing stored within the front of the store was not damaged. However, Cunningham added that the extent of the damage was not yet known. The cause of the fire also remained unknown Tuesday night. Fordson Cleaners, which has been in business since 1949, suffered more severe damage in the March fire. Renovations were extensive, and the business reopened in late August, according to WDIV. "As bad as the fire was, I've got a smile on my face," owner Mike Partrich told Channel 4. Partrich also reported a break-in at his business in July while it was still under construction. Items stolen included a water meter, copper piping and a back-flow preventer. Partrich was on the scene Tuesday night, but was unavailable for comment as he assisted the fire department in surveying the damage and cause of the fire to his business. According to Dearborn Fire Department Capt. William Klim, the fire started in the family's finished basement after 4 p.m. The cause was still unknown as of 6 p.m. Monday. "The basement is destroyed," Klim confirmed, adding that the fire "extended to the first floor." No one was home at the time of the fire. The house is normally occupied by a family of six, including four children, according to neighbors–many of whom gathered around the scene Monday evening. "I was peeling potatoes and I saw black smoke," neighbor Carol Perrin said. "I thought, 'What's going on?'" Klim said that the extent of damage was not yet known, but that the fire had spread to the main floor of the home before Dearborn firefighters were able to stop it. Activity after that point consisted of opening up several walls of the home to ensure that the fire had not spread into the walls. Perrin said she knew the home to be an immaculately clean one, lamenting the damage inside. Neighbors agreed they were just happy to hear that the family was safe.

Wyandotte Fire Chief Jeff Carley said the building is a complete loss. The fire raged for hours until only a couple of hotspots were left at about 1 a.m. While some neighboring departments that came in to help were preparing to call it a night, Carley said, some crews would remain throughout the entire night. No injuries were reported. Emergency crews evacuated residents in nearby buildings. Biddle Avenue was closed between Chestnut and Eureka and wasn't expected to reopen anytime soon, Carley said early Monday morning. While the fire ended up being massive, it started quite innocently. Plumes of smoke filled Lions & Tigers & Beers Sports Club at about 7 p.m., forcing about 20 customers to exit the bar. "It got really smoky and they told us to leave," Angela Fisher of Trenton said. "We didn’t see any flames or anything like that, but there was tons of smoke." An employee told customers that it's believed the fire started in the bar's beer room, near the back of the building. Flames quickly overtook the bar as onlookers gathered outside. Natalie Rankine, director of Wyandotte's Downtown Development Authority, was in tears. "When I got here, it didn’t seem that bad," she said. "But now? ... It's heartbreaking." The Wyandotte Fire Department called off-duty firefighters in to help battle the blaze. Other departments also are being called in to assist, including Allen Park, Brownstown Township, Lincoln Park, Riverview, Rockwood, Southgate and Trenton. The Detroit Fire Department sent in its fire boat to pump water from the Detroit River into the blaze. Brownstown firefighters also used hoses to pump in water from the Detroit River to battle the blaze from the rear of the building. Though the fire was contained to Lions & Tigers & Beers, some neighboring businesses were affected by smoke and water damage. The extent of the impact on the surrounding area is not yet clear. "All my merchandise is a total loss," said David Hall, owner of Country Enchantments. The size of the fire—people reported seeing it in nearby towns such as Lincoln Park—and the popularity of the bar elicited sadness and concern on social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Tom Faryniarz came down to help put up police tape. "I was down here, thought I should come help," Faryniarz said. "The building looks like a total loss." Parts of Wyandotte lost power periodically because of the fire, but power was restored except for the one block of Biddle where the fire was still burning.

Dearborn Burn Drive Toy Run : Its not always about Fire and Incidents. Its the behind the scenes stuff you don't see by chasing around fire trucks with your scanner. The delivery of toys and goods to needed kids by a Fire Department is the best thing you could ever take pictures of. The Dearborn Fire Department spent Wednesday not fighting fire, but giving joy to local children. As part of the work of the Firefighters Burn Drive charity, dozens of firefighters–along with Woodworth Middle School students and supporters–took $15,000 in toys, clothes and other presents to patients at local hospitals to ensure that they have a great holiday season. Armed with the man in red himself, Santa Claus, the department delivered presents to Ronald McDonald House, Children's Hospital of Michigan, the Penrickton Center for Blind Children and the C.S.
